A.V.C. Laboratory, Inc., an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration laboratory, is seeking an experienced Technical Operations Manager to lead and oversee our technical and calibration operations.
This position is ideal for a hands-on technical leader with strong experience in calibration, metrology, instrumentation, quality systems, and laboratory operations. The Technical Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence, efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and the continued development of our calibration team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee daily technical and calibration laboratory operations.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate calibration technicians and technical personnel.
- Coordinate laboratory and onsite calibration activities to ensure jobs are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Ensure calibration activities comply with ISO/IEC 17025, applicable procedures, manufacturer specifications, and customer requirements.
- Review calibration data, technical records, certificates, and measurement results.
- Support the development, validation, and implementation of calibration methods and procedures.
- Evaluate new equipment and customer requests to determine calibration capabilities and technical requirements.
- Maintain measurement traceability and appropriate use of reference standards.
- Monitor equipment maintenance, intermediate checks, environmental requirements, and calibration intervals.
- Assist with measurement uncertainty evaluations and technical risk assessments.
- Investigate technical issues, out-of-tolerance conditions, nonconforming work, and customer technical concerns.
- Work closely with Quality Management to prepare for internal, customer, and accreditation audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve laboratory productivity, turnaround time, technical capabilities, and processes.
- Provide technical guidance to Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, and other departments when required.
- Support onsite calibration projects and technical customer requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional laboratory environment.
Qualifications
- Strong professional experience in calibration, metrology, instrumentation, electronics, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience supervising or leading technicians or technical teams.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements strongly preferred.
- Experience with multiple calibration disciplines is highly desirable, including electrical, pressure, temperature, dimensional, torque, force, mass, and related measurement equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, drawings, procedures, and calibration requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of measurement uncertainty, traceability, tolerances, and calibration principles.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and manage laboratory workflow in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers, technical software, and calibration management systems.
Preferred Background
- Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration laboratory.
- Aviation, aerospace, MRO, manufacturing, or industrial calibration experience.
- Experience supporting accreditation or customer audits.
- Experience developing calibration procedures and expanding laboratory capabilities.
- Technical degree, engineering degree, metrology training, military technical training, or equivalent professional experience.
