Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a formal welding training program (trade school, technical college, or vocational high school) OR other practical In field experience would be considered.
- Basic familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or grinders.
- Forklift certification or willingness to get certified.
Position Summary
As a Junior Welder/ Helper, you will work directly alongside our Certified Welders and Shop Fabricators. This is a hands-on, entry to mid-level role designed for someone who wants to learn the fundamentals of fabrication, heavy equipment repair, and structural welding. You will start by managing shop environments, preparing materials, and assisting with layouts, moving into actual welding as your skills develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Preparation: Clean, grind, bevel, and prep steel plate, pipe, and heavy equipment components for welding.
- Shop Support: Set up welding machines, move materials using shop tools, and ensure fabricators have the gas, wire, and rods needed for tasks.
- Fabrication Assistance: Assist in measuring, cutting, and clamping metal components using saws, torches, and grinders based on blueprints or drawings.
- Safety & Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment; strictly follow OSHA guidelines and company safety policies.
- Skill Development: Actively listen to instruction, shadow senior welders, and practice welding techniques during designated training times.
- Aptitude: Strong mechanical mindset, comfort working with hands, and basic math skills (reading a tape measure accurately is a must).
- Attitude: Dependable, eager to take direction, and possessed of a strong work ethic.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work in physically demanding shop and outdoor construction environments.
- Logistics: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to our Mount Airy shop.
