Position Summary
The Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher provides specialized instructional services to high school students with disabilities in adapted and therapeutic educational settings. This role focuses on implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supporting academic, behavioral, and social development, and ensuring compliance with state and federal special education requirements.
Assignment Details
- Student Population: High School
- Classroom/Caseload Size: Approximately 10–15 students
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide direct and indirect specialized instruction aligned with student goals
- Adapt curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
- Implement positive behavioral support and crisis intervention as needed
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and inform instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families
- Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and reevaluations
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Special Education or a related field
- Valid Adapted Special Education / Exceptional Children License (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Strong knowledge of instructional strategies, behavioral support, and special education compliance
- Effective communication, organization, and collaboration skills

- Master’s degree in Special Education
