Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop foundational accounting skills within a dynamic organization. The successful candidate will support various accounting functions, gain exposure to both corporate and non-profit financial environments, and contribute to accurate financial reporting and compliance. Prior experience with accounting software and a solid understanding of fundamental financial concepts are highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Support general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations using software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft
- Perform bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable processing, and cash flow analysis
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial report writing to aid management decision-making
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and assist in regulatory reporting requirements
- Support audits by preparing documentation and performing audit procedures as needed
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, including double entry bookkeeping and debits & credits entries
- Assist with payroll processing and tax-related activities, including understanding Wills, trusts & estate law where applicable
- Collaborate with team members on special projects related to corporate finance, governmental accounting, or securities law compliance
- Support internal mentoring initiatives for new team members or interns
Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial concepts
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft; experience with Microsoft Excel is essential
- Familiarity with financial statement preparation, financial analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and journal entries
- Understanding of regulatory requirements including SOX compliance and governmental accounting standards
- Knowledge of tax processes and experience with accounts payable/receivable management
- Ability to interpret financial reports and perform cash flow analysis effectively
- Basic understanding of securities law, profit and non-profit accounting practices, private equity considerations, and public accounting environments is a plus
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong communication skills for clear financial report interpretation and documentation

Pay: $59,565.46 - $69,326.15 per year
