Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and flexible Household Helper/Nanny to support our family and help keep our home running smoothly. The specific work may change from day to day depending on the needs of the household. However, the three primary responsibilities will be household cleaning, laundry, and child care for two children, ages 6 and 11.
Some days may involve more cleaning and organizing, while other days may require more assistance with the children, laundry, meal preparation, or other household tasks. The ideal candidate understands that this is a flexible household support position and is willing to help wherever assistance is most needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, responsible, and engaging care for two children, ages 6 and 11.
- Supervise the children and assist with their daily routines, activities, meals, hygiene reminders, and transitions.
- Support age-appropriate play, learning, creativity, and emotional development.
- Complete general household cleaning, including washing dishes, wiping surfaces, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, and keeping common areas neat.
- Wash, dry, fold, organize, and put away laundry.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and comfortable home environment.
- Return household items to their proper places and help keep rooms and storage areas organized.
- Prepare simple, nutritious meals or snacks for the children or family when needed.
- Assist with weekly household responsibilities, such as taking out the trash and completing other scheduled tasks.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents regarding the children, completed household tasks, and any concerns or needed supplies.
- Remain flexible, as daily assignments and priorities may change depending on the needs of the family.
- Assist with additional reasonable household tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience in child care, nannying, household assistance, cleaning, or a related position is preferred.
- Comfortable caring for children ages 6 and 11.
- Able to complete general cleaning and laundry thoroughly without constant supervision.
- Patient, dependable, responsible, and trustworthy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Able to recognize what needs to be done and take initiative.
- Comfortable preparing simple, healthy meals and snacks.
- Knowledge of first aid and child safety practices is preferred.
- Able to follow household routines, instructions, and family preferences.
- Flexible and comfortable working in a position where daily responsibilities may change.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred.
- Experience preparing Caribbean meals—or the willingness and ability to learn—is a plus.
This position is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys helping families, caring for children, cleaning, organizing, and completing a variety of household responsibilities. The work will not be exactly the same every day, but cleaning, laundry, and child care will remain the main priorities of the position.
