Our Mission:
Champion Schools is dedicated to fostering academic excellence through the integration of accelerated content rich curriculum, using powerful and diverse instructional techniques encouraging critical thinking and the development of problem-solving skills for students Kindergarten to 8th Grade. We will also use the community as a laboratory to construct knowledge through exploration and discovery.
Job Overview:
· Develop and monitor intervention strategies to increase academic success
· Assist with conflict resolution and anger management
· Help students develop appropriate social interaction skills
· Provide individual and group counseling
· Provide crisis intervention
· Work with parents to facilitate support for academic and behavioral improvements
· Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
· May facilitate special interest programs (i.e. support groups, parenting groups)
· Assess students with mental health concerns
· Develop a structured schedule and calendar (in partnership with school administration/leadership) to ensure proactive and consistent student behavioral support
· Provide staff training and information to better understand factors affecting student behavior
· Develop in-service training as needed
· Assist teachers with behavior management
· Provide direct in-class support
· Participate in Student Study Team
· Attend IEP meetings as needed
· Skilled in positive behavior interventions and strategies
· Skilled in restorative practices
· Skilled in trauma informed practices
· Ability to work with diverse populations
· Build strong relationships with students, staff and families
Qualifications:
Certified School Counselor with Masters degree in Social Work or Counseling and at least 6-hours of practicum in Social Work or Counseling in a school setting; or one year of full-time experience as a social worker or counselor in a school setting.
