McClure’s Garage Inc. is looking for an experienced Level A or B Automotive Technician to join our team!
We are a family-owned and operated business that has been serving Gurnee and the surrounding community since 1910. We take pride in providing quality repairs, honest service, and a workplace where our employees are treated like family—not just another number.
This is NOT an entry-level or training position. We are looking for an experienced technician who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and can work both independently and as part of a team.
Position Details
- Full-time, hourly position
- Pay is highly based on experience, skill level, and abilities
- Average 40–45 hours per week
- Monday–Friday: 7:30 AM–5:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
- Technicians work only every third Saturday
- No flat-rate pay
- Specialty tools and diagnostic equipment are provided by McClure’s Garage
- Additional earning opportunity through night/weekend towing
- Night/weekend towing is paid as additional commission on top of technician wages
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and drivability concerns
- Perform general automotive repairs and maintenance
- Brake, steering, and suspension repairs
- Starting and charging system diagnosis and repair
- Cooling system diagnosis and repair
- Engine performance and check-engine-light diagnosis
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Tire service and general vehicle inspections
- Use scan tools, service information, and wiring diagrams to accurately diagnose vehicles
- Complete repair orders and properly document diagnosis and repairs
- Communicate with service staff regarding needed repairs and vehicle condition
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Work together with other technicians and employees to keep the shop running efficiently
Qualifications
- Previous professional automotive repair experience is required
- Level A or B technician experience preferred
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Must have your own basic automotive tools
- Experience using Snap-on and Autel diagnostic equipment is preferred
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and use electronic service information
- Must be dependable, motivated, and able to work as part of a team
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Illinois Class C driver's license is a plus; we are willing to help train the right person for the proper license
- Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of an automotive technician, with or without reasonable accommodation
Towing Opportunity
The ability and willingness to perform night and weekend towing is a HUGE hiring plus.
Towing is not included in your regular hourly technician wage and provides an opportunity to earn additional commission-based income. We are willing to train the right technician on towing operations.
