Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Discharge Planning/Front Desk Specialist to join our healthcare team. This vital role combines front desk responsibilities with discharge planning duties, ensuring smooth patient flow, effective communication, and comprehensive support throughout the patient care process. You will serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, while also coordinating discharge procedures to facilitate timely and efficient patient transitions. Duties
- Greet patients, visitors, and staff warmly, providing exceptional customer service at the front desk
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes using electronic health records (EHR) systems and patient management software
- Answer incoming phone calls promptly, directing inquiries to appropriate departments or personnel
- Assist with scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and discharge appointments in compliance with health regulation policies
- Coordinate discharge planning by communicating with healthcare providers, patients, families, and insurance companies to ensure smooth transitions
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, discharge instructions, and administrative records
- Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws and hospital policies, ensuring sensitive information remains secure
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for documentation and reporting purposes
- Knowledge of health regulation policies related to patient privacy and medical documentation standards (e.g., HIPAA)
- Experience supporting medical administrative tasks including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and billing support
- Proficiency with medical administrative support tools such as Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and patient management software
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively via phone and in person
- Understanding of health insurance processes, including claims submission and client communication
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent typing skills for accurate data entry and record keeping
