Duties
- Safely operate a range of commercial trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, and specialized vehicles across regional routes.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques and equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, and hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan optimal routes and adapt to changing traffic conditions for timely deliveries.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and compliance with all safety standards.
- Document delivery activities accurately, including logs for hours of service, cargo documentation, and incident reports.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, route adjustments, or any issues encountered during transit.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving within regional territories.
- Familiarity with operating manual transmission vehicles and various truck types such as flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling processes including load & unload procedures for freight of different types.
- Experience adhering to FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling standards, and safety protocols for dangerous goods.
- Delivery driver experience involving freight transportation over regional routes with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.
- Ability to operate auxiliary equipment such as forklifts when necessary for loading or unloading cargo.
- Strong understanding of commercial driving practices combined with excellent manual handling skills to ensure safe cargo management.
