The Instructor of Electrical Systems Technology is responsible for delivering learner-centered instruction across traditional, online, and hybrid formats, utilizing industry-standard tools, equipment, and instructional practices while emphasizing safety, hazard awareness, and compliance with current electrical codes. The instructor fosters a high-quality learning environment by effectively planning and managing classroom and laboratory activities, evaluating student performance, maintaining accurate and timely course documentation in college systems, and supporting student success through mentoring and appropriate referrals to campus resources.
The instructor actively participates in student recruitment, program promotion, retention, transfer, and job placement efforts while fostering strong relationships with business and industry partners to ensure program alignment with workforce and community needs. Additional responsibilities include assisting with program assessment and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting and mentoring adjunct faculty, participating in advisory committees, attending college meetings and events, and contributing to the overall mission and goals of the College.
This full-time 9-month position is grant-funded for a limited duration. Funding is anticipated through May 15, 2028. The position is expected to become self-sustaining through enrollment growth; however, continued employment beyond the grant period is contingent upon funding availability, institutional approval, and program sustainability.
A reasonable and equitable teaching load will be determined collaboratively between the instructor and the departmental chair, in consultation with the division dean. This workload may include a combination of traditional classroom instruction, distance education, workforce development instruction, academic mentoring, professional development, curriculum development, and other related administrative responsibilities. Classes may be offered during the day, evening, and/or weekends based on program and student needs.
Wilkes (Main) Campus will be the primary teaching location; however, the instructor may be assigned teaching duties at the Ashe Campus and/or the Alleghany Center based on instructional and operational needs.
The Instructor of Electrical Systems Technology reports directly to the department chairperson or division dean and works collaboratively with the lead instructor and the Workforce Development and Community Education division to support instructional quality, program growth, and workforce training needs.
