Chancey’s Towing & Recovery is seeking an experienced, dependable CDL Class A Driver to join our heavy equipment transport operation. This is not a standard freight or dry-van driving position. The driver we hire will be responsible for transporting heavy construction equipment, forklifts, Connex/storage containers, rental equipment, machinery, and other oversized or heavy loads for commercial customers throughout our service area.
We provide transportation services for companies such as Yancey Bros. Co., Sunbelt Rentals, Border Equipment, and other construction, industrial, equipment rental, and commercial customers.
We are looking to hire immediately and need someone who is comfortable operating commercial equipment, understands the responsibility involved in transporting valuable and extremely heavy machinery, and can safely handle loads that may exceed 40,000 lbs.
REQUIRED: NO AUTOMATIC-ONLY CDL RESTRICTION
Applicants must possess a valid Class A CDL without an automatic transmission restriction.
Our equipment may require the operation of a manual transmission, so applicants whose CDL is restricted to automatic transmission vehicles will not qualify for this position.

This position requires a driver who understands that every load is different. Proper judgment, securement, weight awareness, equipment inspection, and safe operation are critical.
Primary Responsibilities
The CDL A Heavy Equipment Transport Driver will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to:
- Safely operating Class A commercial vehicles and heavy transport equipment
- Picking up and delivering heavy equipment for commercial customers
- Loading, positioning, securing, transporting, and unloading equipment
- Transporting loads weighing 40,000 lbs. or more
- Transporting 40'-53' Connex/storage containers when assigned
- Properly using chains, binders, straps, and other cargo securement equipment
- Inspecting all securement before movement
- Rechecking loads and securement as required during transport
- Performing thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Monitoring tires, brakes, lights, hydraulics, chains, straps, binders, and other equipment
- Confirming that loads are properly positioned and balanced before transport
- Following applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Maintaining awareness of vehicle height, length, width, weight, turning radius, and clearance requirements
- Safely navigating construction sites, equipment yards, rental facilities, commercial properties, and customer locations
- Communicating professionally with dispatchers, customers, equipment operators, and site personnel
- Following dispatch instructions and providing accurate status updates
- Completing required paperwork and documentation
- Reporting mechanical or safety concerns immediately
- Maintaining company equipment in a professional manner
- Representing Chancey’s Towing & Recovery professionally while interacting with our commercial customers
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Valid CDL Class A
- ***NO automatic transmission restriction***
- Ability and experience operating manual-transmission commercial vehicles
- Ability to safely transport heavy equipment and machinery
- Ability to safely handle loads exceeding 40,000 lbs.
- Knowledge of proper cargo securement procedures
- Knowledge of chains, binders, straps, anchor points, and load positioning
- Strong understanding of commercial vehicle safety
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Ability to follow DOT/FMCSA regulations
- Ability to safely enter and exit heavy commercial vehicles and equipment
- Ability to work outdoors and in changing weather conditions
- Ability to work around construction equipment, machinery, traffic, and active job sites
- Dependable transportation to and from work
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Professional attitude and appearance
- Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch and customers
- Ability to follow directions and work independently
- Must be safety-conscious and dependable
Driving Record Requirement — 7-Year MVR
All applicants considered for employment will be required to provide a 7-Year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
The MVR must be:
- A complete 7-year driving history
- Current and legible
- No more than 30 days old
Applicants should be prepared to obtain and provide this documentation during the hiring process.
Background Check Requirement
Applicants will also be required to provide a criminal background check obtained through the Sheriff’s Department.
The background check must be:
- Issued by the appropriate Sheriff’s Department
- Current
- No more than 30 days old
Both the 7-Year MVR and Sheriff’s Department Background Check are required as part of our hiring process.

Previous heavy equipment transport experience is strongly preferred.
We need someone who understands that hauling a 40,000+ lb. forklift or a large Connex container requires considerably more attention than simply moving freight from one dock to another.
The successful applicant should be able to look at a load, understand how it needs to be positioned and secured, recognize unsafe conditions, and refuse to move a load until it can be transported safely.
Reliability Is Extremely Important
This is an operational position where customers depend on us to move their equipment when promised. We need someone who:

- Is ready to work
- Communicates with dispatch
- Takes care of company equipment
- Does not take unnecessary shortcuts
- Understands the importance of customer service
- Takes safety seriously
- Can be trusted with expensive company equipment and customer property
- Is willing to work as part of a team
If you are regularly late, unreliable, unwilling to communicate with dispatch, or uncomfortable working with heavy equipment, this will not be the right position for you.
Customer Service
Although this is a driving position, our drivers are also representatives of Chancey’s Towing & Recovery.
You may be interacting directly with employees and representatives from major commercial customers, equipment rental companies, construction companies, dealerships, and industrial facilities.

Physical Requirements
This position may require the ability to:
- Climb in and out of commercial trucks repeatedly
- Climb onto trailers when necessary
- Handle chains, binders, straps, and securement equipment
- Bend, kneel, reach, pull, and lift during equipment securement
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions
- Work around moving vehicles and heavy machinery
- Walk on uneven surfaces, construction sites, gravel lots, and equipment yards
Applicants must be physically capable of safely performing the essential functions of a heavy equipment transport position.
Schedule
This is a full-time position.
Because towing and equipment transportation is service-based work, applicants should understand that workload and scheduling may vary depending on customer demand.
Availability, dependability, and flexibility are important.
