General Summary:
To work with the Chancellor on safe environment, incorporation of parishes, and records retention management related to diocesan archives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safe environment practices for minors and for vulnerable adults who participate in the life of the Church, such that those serving these individuals appreciate the risk of trauma and how to prevent it.
- Civil law parameters of a nonprofit corporation in the State of Michigan, such that the clergy and parish staff both understand and have the resources to carry out the associated responsibilities of a parish.
- Records management and retention, such that the acts of the diocese are gathered, arranged, and safeguarded in the archives of the diocese and are drawn upon to support pastoral needs of the diocese.
- Learn and understand Church norms and civil laws applicable to each area of responsibility.
- Develop and draft or revise policies for at least safe environment and records management.
- Design and provide resources for clergy, diocese and parish staff to use in each area of responsibility.
- Consult with clergy, diocese and parish staff on uncommon implementation matters under the policies.
- Verify the implementation and functioning of the safe environment policies at the diocese and parishes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in general business studies, law, or liberal arts preferred.
- A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Strong analytical skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation, current driver’s license.
- Ability to explain matters such that others can understand.
- An appreciation for the written word; drafting and writing.
Physical Demands:
- Good visual acuity.
- Periods of prolonged sitting and working with hands.
- Periods of standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending.
- Able to lift up to 15 pounds.
