Position Summary
Rocky Mount-Wilson Regional Airport is seeking a dependable, self-motivated Repair Mechanic / Grounds Maintenance Technician to support the daily maintenance and appearance of the airport. This position is a combination of equipment and facility maintenance with outdoor groundskeeping responsibilities.
The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on airport vehicles, equipment and facilities while also maintaining the airport grounds through mowing, trimming, weed control and general landscaping. This position works independently much of the time and reports directly to airport management.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment & Facility Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on airport equipment, including fuel trucks, tugs, sweepers, mowers, and other ground support equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on airport vehicles and equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and respond promptly to minimize operational downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order records.
- Order parts and supplies as needed and coordinate with vendors.
- Perform minor facility repairs, including doors, lighting, plumbing, and other general maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop.
- Ensure compliance with FAA, OSHA and airport safety regulations.
Grounds Maintenance & Landscaping
- Operate zero turn and commercial mowers to maintain airport grounds.
- Perform routine mowing, trimming, edging, weed removal and general landscape maintenance.
- Plant, maintain, and care for flowers, shrubs, trees and landscaped areas as needed.
- Operate hand tools and power equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain the appearance of airfield safety areas, terminal grounds and other airport property.
- Assist with seasonal landscaping projects and general outdoor maintenance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair (automotive, diesel, agricultural, or heavy equipment).
- Experience operating commercial mowing equipment and performing lawn care or landscaping is preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and outdoor maintenance equipment.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, gasoline, and diesel systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
