Position Summary
The Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician is a master-level role responsible for the advanced diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction machinery. This position requires deep technical expertise across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, along with the ability to lead by example and set the standard for quality and safety.
Journeyman Technicians at ReadyDig operate with a high degree of independence—handling complex repairs, mentoring apprentices and mid-level mechanics, and serving as trusted experts both in the shop and in the field.
Key Responsibilities
· Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and powertrain systems on a variety of heavy construction equipment.
· Perform major component rebuilds, overhauls, and precision alignments.
· Utilize advanced diagnostic software, schematics, and technical manuals to identify root causes efficiently.
· Execute preventative maintenance programs and equipment inspections with a focus on safety, uptime, and reliability.
· Fabricate and weld components as needed to restore or reinforce equipment integrity.
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to apprentice and mid-level technicians.
· Communicate clearly with Service Advisors, Parts personnel, and customers regarding repair recommendations and timelines.
· Uphold ReadyDig’s safety standards and demonstrate professionalism in all customer interactions.
· Travel to job sites for advanced field service and emergency repairs as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
· 10+ years of experience as a heavy equipment technician, including advanced diagnostics and rebuild work.
· Mastery of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
· Proven ability to work independently and manage complex repair projects from start to finish.
· Proficiency with diagnostic software and manufacturer tools
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Must provide and maintain a comprehensive set of professional-grade tools.
· Strong commitment to safety, precision, and quality workmanship.
Preferred:
· Technical certification or journeyman license in Diesel or Heavy Equipment Technology.
· Welding/fabrication certification.
· CDL and/or Forklift Certification.
· OEM training or factory certification on major equipment brands.
Work Environment
· Mix of shop and field work (some travel required).
