Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Kennel Assistant to join our team and contribute to the well-being of our animals. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care, maintaining clean and safe kennel environments, and supporting the overall health of the animals in our facility. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors and engage in hands-on animal husbandry, ensuring that every animal receives the attention and care they deserve. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about animal welfare.
We are currently looking to bring someone on 3 mornings a week for 2-3 hours, with the plan to increase hours and pay as additional skills are learned or for different responsibilities, such as training, socialization, transport to vet or adopters/fosters, office keeping, or other areas the candidate may be interested in. Hours have the potential to go full-time by winter for the right hire.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily animal care routines, including feeding, watering, grooming, and monitoring health status
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and surrounding areas to maintain a hygienic environment
- Handle animals safely and confidently, ensuring proper restraint and handling techniques are followed
- Support veterinary visits or treatments as needed under supervision
- Maintain accurate records of animal behavior, health checks, and treatments
- Operate various equipment such as power tools, hand tools, and farm machinery for facility maintenance or repairs
- Conduct routine inspections of kennel facilities and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly
Skills
- Previous experience with animal care or animal husbandry is highly desirable
- Supervising experience in a team environment is a plus
- Animal handling and safety skills
- Ability to lift 50 pound dog food bags is helpful
