- Job Description Job Summary
An apprentice electrician assists journeymen and master electricians with installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems while learning the trade. Responsibilities include bending conduit, pulling wire, and utilizing hand tools. The role requires physical labor, adherence to safety codes, and completion of required educational coursework.
Essential Functions
• Take an active role in prioritizing safety in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards throughout the plant for yourself and others at all times.
• Become Familiar with Tools and Equipment. Learn the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the Electrician’s trade, including how to operate and store all equipment. Learn the occupational hazards of the Electrician’s trade.
• Assist co-workers in the service, repair, calibration, regulation, fine-tuning, and testing of machines, devices, electrical systems, conductors, and associated equipment at aggregate, asphalt, ready-mix concrete, ship, and rail unloading systems.
• Assist co-workers in stringing overhead and underground lines and cables and in installing conduit and wire.
• Learn how to read and draw simple electrical sketches. Work with blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine safe and effective installation procedures.
• Detect and diagnose all electrical wiring, appliances, fixtures, machinery problems, failing components, and malfunctions while making corrections and striving to improve equipment reliability.
• Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities Education
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Working on Electrical certification, some college preferred.
Experience
• Must display a positive attitude, willingness to learn and grow, ability to take direction from others, and have clear communication skills.
• Previous experience in construction or industrial electrical work is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must have some knowledge of electrical tools, their uses, and maintenance.
• Ability to read/draw simple electrical sketches.
• Ability to detect and troubleshoot for possible electrical issues.
• Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of electrical codes and electrical theory. Motor control is preferred (NEC, NESC, & MSHA).
Other Requirements
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Must display the highest commitment to ethical decision-making and integrity.
