The Gordon Police Department is looking to hire 1 P.O.S.T certified or uncertified police officers. Our department offers a low call volume, the ability to police the way you choose to, plenty of time to run traffic if that is your thing. We also offer a supportive command staff and opportunities to take training classes that you want too to better yourself and your career. Must posses a valid drivers license, high school diploma or GED. A criminal background check, drug screen, and drivers license history check will be performed. Preference will be given to applicants who are already P.O.S.T. certified as a police officer.
Benefits include health insurance for the employee, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and retirement. Pay is $19.64 hourly after probation the pay is increased to $22.58 hourly. Duties
- Patrol designated neighborhoods, commercial areas, and public spaces to deter crime and ensure safety.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, accidents, disturbances, and other incidents requiring law enforcement intervention.
- Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and preparing detailed reports.
- Utilize surveillance techniques to monitor suspicious activity and prevent unlawful behavior.
- Apply first aid and CPR when necessary to assist injured individuals until medical professionals arrive.
- Manage conflict situations through effective conflict management strategies to de-escalate tensions peacefully.
- Enforce laws related to immigration, animal control, loss prevention, and security protocols as required.
Experience
- Prior experience in law enforcement or military service is highly desirable but not mandatory; training will be provided for uncertified applicants.
- Strong report writing skills with the ability to document incidents clearly and accurately.
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures including criminal investigation techniques and legal standards.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Experience with driving patrol vehicles safely over diverse terrains in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with animal handling and animal care is a plus for roles involving community or facility security involving animals.
- Ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations while managing conflicts effectively.
