Position Title: Mechanical Forge Press Operator
Wage: $19.00-$24.00/hour
Shift: Rotating 12-Hour Days
Hours: 6:00am-6:00pm Monday-Friday, based on production needs; Overtime on Saturdays typically 5:00am-11:00am/12:00pm
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Forging Press Operator for a direct hire opportunity in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for operating mechanical forging presses, setting up tooling, monitoring production, and ensuring quality standards are met. Mechanical Forge Press Operator Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Operate mechanical forging presses safely and efficiently
- Load raw materials and feed metal bars into induction and rotary furnaces
- Set up, align, and secure dies, punches, and tooling
- Adjust machine settings, including stroke, pressure, and cycle speed
- Monitor production runs to maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards
- Perform first-article and in-process inspections
- Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools
- Verify finished parts meet dimensional and quality requirements
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and report larger maintenance needs
- Perform basic preventive maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication
- Maintain accurate production, quality, and downtime records
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
Mechanical Forge Press Operator Requirements:
- Experience operating mechanical forging presses (non-hydraulic)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on industrial equipment experience
- Knowledge of dies, punches, tooling, and press setup
- Ability to read production instructions and basic drawings
- Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring devices
- Ability to identify and respond to quality, production, and safety concerns
- Comfortable working in a heavy industrial or forge shop environment
- Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Preferred experience operating medium to large tonnage mechanical presses (1500-6000 ton)
- Preferred experience with induction furnaces, rotary furnaces, or trimming operations
- Preferred experience with robotic systems, preferably Fanuc
- Preferred forklift or material handling experience
- Preferred background in forging, steel manufacturing, flange manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environments
- Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift
- Frequent use of hands for operating machinery and measuring parts
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in high-temperature manufacturing environments
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
