True North Consultants is a growing environmental consulting firm that offers continuing growth, stable leadership, mentorship, and views employees as valuable resources. We are seeking a self-motivated entry-level Industrial Hygienist with 0–3 years of experience (recent graduates encouraged) to join our team in Naperville, Illinois, and become an integral part of our continued success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform basic/assist with industrial hygiene assessment and sampling collection tasks, including asbestos, lead, mold, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), under supervision
- Assist with oversight of asbestos, lead, mold investigation and remediation projects, and other industrial hygiene/environmental projects
- Preparation of field documents (notes, forms, photographs, figures, logs)
- Field equipment operation and calibration (with training provided as needed)
- Assist in technical report preparation and editing
- Communicate project task status, schedules, findings, and recommendations to staff and senior consultants
- Local travel of 50-75% is expected; nationwide travel possible, and 2nd/3rd shift or weekend work may be required
Minimal Qualifications
- BA/BS in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental and Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related STEM field (Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences)
- 0–3 years of experience in asbestos inspections, environmental sciences, mold/lead sampling, field data collection, or related areas (internships/co-ops count); ability to learn/calibrate/operate sampling equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word), basic report drafting, and interpreting lab data/construction documents/regulations
- Preferred (but not required at hire): Current IL Asbestos Inspector License, Asbestos Project Manager License, NIOSH 582 Microscopy Training; certifications in Mold, Lead, Air Sampling; OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required
- Ability to pass medical approval by Company physician post-offer
- Self-motivated with strong communication skills and eagerness to thrive in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Perform sedentary work requiring exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
- Visual acuity.
- Hearing and talking to perceive the expression and exchange of ideas.
- Walk and climb over rough terrain.
- Perform moderate physical tasks.
- Work in inclement weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- Work around potential hazardous or noxious materials and be able and willing to don personal protective equipment.
