POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Roaster executes daily roasting operations with precision and consistency, transforming green coffee into finished product. This role is responsible for material handling, maintaining quality and inventory standards, and providing backup roasting support in a fast-paced production environment. Essential Functions1. Material Handling
- Stage and prepare green coffee to support the roasting schedule
- Build and maintain blends to specifications
- Receive and unload green coffee shipments
- Maintain lot traceability throughout production
2. Inventory Management
- Complete daily green inventory counts
- Track green usage and production yields
- Support periodic counts of production materials
- Maintain accurate inventory records
3. Quality Control
- Pull and analyze roast samples for roast color and consistency
- Adjust roasting to meet defined quality standards
- Participate in cupping and sensory evaluation
- Follow QC hold procedures for out-of-spec coffee
4. Machine Operation & Maintenance
- Operate roasters according to defined profiles and SOPs
- Prepare, roast, and monitor batches using Cropster
- Record batch data (weights, lot numbers, production details)
- Perform cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment
- Identify and address minor process or mechanical issues
- Maintain fire safety standards, including monitoring equipment and reporting hazards
Other Duties
- Execute the roasting schedule safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean, organized, food-safe workspace
- Follow all safety and GMP standards
- Assist in cross training and interdepartmental support as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Specialty coffee or food/beverage experience preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Basic math and data entry skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and Cropster preferred
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods
- Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or position production samples or materials weighing up to [e.g., 30–50] pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a coffee production facility with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, dust, varying temperatures, and moderate noise levels. Employees are expected to follow all safety, food safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
