Role Description:
The Composite Fabrication Technician will be responsible for fabricating and assembling the primary and secondary structures for the Triton vehicle. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, motivated team player with a genuine interest in marine robotics and electro-mechanical systems. Experience in open and closed molding, vacuum bagging, material lay-up, and infusion is preferred. Basic experience would be considered if open to additional training. Candidates must also be proficient in the use of hand and power tools and have some basic carpentry and fitting skills. Marine experience a plus but not required. This role will report to the Fabrication Supervisor.
Role Responsibilities:
- Fabrication and Assembly of primary and secondary composite structures
- Use various assembly and testing tools to build sub-systems based on instructions
- Assemble Triton structure
- Follow established assembly instructions and interface with engineers to provide feedback on improvements
- Ability to establish and maintain project priorities
- Identifies what needs to be done and takes action before being asked or required
- Read and interpret fabrication and mechanical engineering drawings
- Maintain a clean work area and is responsible for designated tools
Role Requirements:
- General mechanical assembly skills
- Basic carpentry and fitting skills
- Ability to work independently and be an effective team player
- Must have good eyesight, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to differentiate between colors
- HS Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of work experience and education
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English with excellent understanding
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle active work including lifting, bending, walking and standing for considerable lengths of time
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
- Possess a valid Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) or successfully pass the requirements to obtain one
- Successfully pass drug test, background check, and motor vehicle screening
Role Preferences:
- Strong hand-on skills with experience using a wide range of tools and production equipment
- Experience in material layup, open and closed molding, vacuum bagging, and/or infusion
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of technical principles relating to composite fabrication
