Assistant Project Manager in Training
Percopo Coatings is seeking motivated construction professionals who are interested in developing into future Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers through our structured APM Development Program.
This role is designed for individuals with construction experience who want to expand their knowledge of project management, estimating, operations, financial controls, and client relations. During the program, candidates will work closely with our leadership team to learn our processes, build relationships across the organization, and demonstrate readiness for increased project management responsibilities.
Rather than stepping immediately into a full Assistant Project Manager position, participants will complete a progressive training and evaluation process that allows us to assess strengths, identify development opportunities, and create a personalized growth path toward an Assistant Project Manager role.
Program Overview
As an APM in Training, you will:
- Learn the operational structure and culture of Percopo Coatings
- Gain exposure to project management, estimating, operations, field leadership, and client relations
- Participate in ongoing mentorship and coaching with company leadership
- Receive structured performance evaluations and development feedback
- Complete progressive training milestones designed to prepare you for Assistant Project Manager responsibilities
- Meet regularly with supervisors to review progress, goals, and career advancement opportunities
Successful participants may advance into an Assistant Project Manager role based on demonstrated performance, leadership potential, technical aptitude, and organizational fit.
Training & Development Responsibilities
Project Management Exposure
- Learn project documentation processes including RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, and project closeout documentation
- Assist Project Managers with scheduling, production tracking, and project coordination
- Participate in client, subcontractor, and vendor communications
- Learn project financial tracking and budget management processes
Field Experience & Leadership Development
- Conduct job site visits alongside Project Managers and Operations leadership
- Learn quality control and project inspection procedures
- Support jobsite safety initiatives and OSHA compliance efforts
- Develop leadership skills through interaction with field teams and project stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- 1–5+ years of experience in construction, coatings, painting, field supervision, estimating, project coordination, or related trades
- Strong desire to build a long-term career in construction project management
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Strong computer literacy required, with the ability to independently navigate computer systems, use common software applications, manage electronic files, and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to read or learn to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial construction experience
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam or similar construction software
- Commercial painting, coatings, or specialty subcontractor experience
- Previous leadership or crew management experience
