Reports To: Principal, Director of Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent
Employment Status: 12 Month (6:15 AM - 2:45 PM)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
3. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
4. Willingness to work with staff, students, and community members.
5. Prior related work experience required.
6. Willingness to participate in future training.
7. Ability to lift 50 lbs. numerous times.
8. Willingness to follow assigned work schedule.
9. Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.
10. Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions for the work environment.
General Description:
Serves as a multi-task person to assist school personnel with the daily functions of the building maintenance and general upkeep of the building per the work schedule. Performs general custodial duties.
Essential Functions:
1. Schedules work and cleaning projects in the building. Communicates with other custodians any special needs for the building and works as a team to complete these tasks.
2. Helps schedule and train other custodians in the building.
3. Ensures the care, condition, appearance, repair or replacement of all physical equipment, building, facilities, and grounds.
4. Constantly promotes safety, health, and comfort of students and staff.
5. Maintains inventory records of custodial equipment and supplies.
6. Submits requisitions/requests for purchases through the Principal or Maintenance Director.
7. Schedules overtime for custodians in the building.
8. In consultation with the Maintenance Director and Principal, oversees custodial work schedules during vacation periods.
9. Removes garbage from cafeteria. Cooperates with kitchen staff to ensure the safety and cleanliness of kitchen areas during lunch periods.
10. Coordinates building night and weekend activities with principal/Maintenance Director.
11. Completes required tasks such as, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping and waxing floors, dusting, emptying and cleaning waste containers and pencil sharpeners, cleaning restrooms, refilling towel and soap dispensers, replace ceiling tiles, wiping whiteboards or chalkboards and polishing furniture and woodwork as necessary. Unclogs toilets and sinks with plunger or drain snake.
12. Repairs minor plumbing issues. (seals, valves, etc)
13. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning (if applicable) to provide appropriate temperature settings. Calls Maintenance if there are issues.
14. Maintains the necessary supplies and equipment to perform custodial duties. Uses work order system to request supplies or repairs.
15. Helps unload trucks – receives, checks and stores supplies.
16. Maintains clean, safe, and neat boiler rooms and mechanical rooms.
17. Removes snow, ice, and debris from walks and entryways. Salt any walks that may need it for events.
18. Keeps building in a neat and presentable fashion.
19. Assists in moving and arranging furniture. This includes but is not limited to: chairs, desks, tables, risers, etc. Set up equipment and furniture for special events and use of building for school and community functions.
20. Assists lunchroom personnel in housekeeping duties in the kitchen and cafeteria, including the removal of garbage. Assist in housekeeping duties by clearing tables, sanitizing, and scrubbing floors. Set-up and tear down of breakfast and lunch.
21. Assists with building safety drills.
22. Assists with locker jams or repairs.
23. Completes repairs as needed. Replaces light bulbs/tubes when needed.
24. Opens and secures the building (when necessary). Periodically checks to make sure doors are locked and secured throughout the school day.
25. Reports special maintenance needs to the principal and Maintenance Director.
26. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
27. Helps maintain safety and security in the buildings.
28. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Responsible for clocking in and out each day.
4. Reports absence or change in shift into online reporting system
5. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)
6. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
7. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and the building principal.
Additional Working Conditions:
1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
2. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
3. Regular requirement to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop and kneel.
4. Lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials.
5. Walking in excess of 2-3 miles per day.
6. Repetitive hand motion (e.g. waxing, mopping).
7. Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
8. Exposure to high levels of noise (e.g. vacuum cleaner, power tools...).
