Duties
- Provide personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility support using proper patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and medication reminders in accordance with care plans.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for changes in health status or behavior, documenting findings accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect privacy.
- Support patients with mobility and transfers using manual handling techniques and patient transfer equipment; assist with transportation to appointments or community activities.
- Administer medications following prescribed schedules and safety protocols; respond promptly to emergencies with first aid or CPR when required.
- Maintain clear communication with clients’ families and healthcare teams to ensure consistent, high-quality care tailored to each individual’s needs.
- Support clients living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or other neurodevelopmental disorders by implementing specialized memory care strategies and engaging them in meaningful activities.
Qualifications
- Proven experience working as an In Home Caregiver or in related settings such as assisted living facilities, nursing homes, group homes, or home health agencies.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, and emergency response procedures including first aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities support or geriatrics is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper manual handling techniques; experience working with Hoyer lifts preferred.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients’ families and healthcare providers while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are often required for client appointments and community outings.
