Exceptional Children (EC) Director
Doral Academy of North Carolina is seeking a highly qualified, student-centered Exceptional Children (EC) Director to lead and oversee all aspects of the school's special education program. The EC Director serves as the school's expert in special education compliance, programming, and instructional support while ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality services in the least restrictive environment.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who possesses strong knowledge of federal and state special education regulations, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for helping students, families, and educators succeed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for the school's Exceptional Children program.
- Develop, implement, and monitor systems that ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local special education requirements.
- Lead the vision and continuous improvement efforts for special education services across the school.
- Promote inclusive practices that support student achievement and access to grade-level standards.
- Collaborate with school leadership to align EC programming with school-wide academic goals.
Compliance and Case Management
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, North Carolina Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Oversee referral, evaluation, eligibility, reevaluation, and annual review processes.
- Monitor and maintain compliance timelines for all student records and documentation.
- Review and monitor IEPs to ensure legal compliance and educational effectiveness.
- Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings and other required special education meetings.
- Serve as the primary contact during audits, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews.
Instructional Leadership
- Support EC teachers in the implementation of research-based instructional practices.
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends and drive instructional improvements.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented.
- Provide coaching and professional development related to special education instruction and compliance.
- Support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and intervention processes.
Staff Supervision and Support
- Supervise, evaluate, and support EC teachers and related service providers.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified EC personnel.
- Facilitate collaborative planning and problem-solving among EC and general education staff.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous growth.
Family and Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and community partners.
- Serve as a resource for parents regarding special education processes and services.
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with outside agencies and service providers as appropriate.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and reports required by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Manage EC budgets, materials, and program resources.
- Attend leadership, faculty, and school-based meetings.
- Support school-wide initiatives and programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal and Vice Principal.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current North Carolina Teaching License in Special Education.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience in special education.
- Thorough knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and North Carolina EC policies and procedures.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data and use information to drive decision-making.
Preferred
- Master's Degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
- North Carolina Administrator License or eligibility for licensure.
- Previous experience serving as an EC Lead Teacher, EC Coordinator, or EC Director.
- Experience working within a charter school environment.
