Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a contract position to join our healthcare team. The LPN will provide high-quality patient care across various settings, including long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals, and outpatient clinics. This role requires a compassionate approach, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in patient assessment, medication administration, and specialized care for diverse patient populations, including geriatrics and individuals with developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assess patient vital signs to determine health status
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols
- Manage IV infusions and catheter care with sterile technique
- Document medical information precisely using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations, specimen collection, and processing
- Provide specialized care for patients with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or memory impairments
- Support acute pain management and airway management procedures
- Educate patients and caregivers on health conditions, medication use, and discharge instructions
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and long-term care standards
Duties
The Licensed Practical Nurse will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing services that promote optimal health outcomes. Specific duties include:
- Conducting patient assessments to identify needs related to geriatrics, pediatrics, or acute care cases
- Monitoring patients’ vital signs regularly and recognizing signs of deterioration or emergency situations
- Administering IV therapy, including IV insertion and maintenance for hydration or medication delivery
- Managing complex cases such as ventilator support or tube feeding in appropriate settings
- Ensuring accurate documentation of all patient interactions in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks
- Assisting in discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care and providing education on medication management
- Implementing infection control protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections
- Supporting triage processes in urgent care or emergency room environments to prioritize patient needs
- Providing compassionate care tailored to individuals with behavioral health issues or disabilities
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
- Valid state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals, nursing homes, or outpatient clinics
- Critical care experience preferred, including ICU or Level I Trauma Center exposure
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth
- Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards for accurate documentation
- Experience working with geriatric patients, individuals with dementia or developmental disabilities
- Proficiency in medication administration, phlebotomy, and sterile technique procedures
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies
- Excellent communication skills for effective caregiver interaction and team collaboration
- Need Virginia Nursing license, Basic Life Support, and 1 year experience as an LPN
