A Day in the Life of a Primary Care Physician
As a Primary Care Physician, you'll provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care to individuals and families while building lasting relationships that support lifelong health and wellness. You'll diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions, promote preventive care, and collaborate closely with nurses, medical assistants, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional outcomes. Your work will directly contribute to improving the health of the community through compassionate, evidence-based care.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform comprehensive physical exams, evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment planning
- Diagnose and manage acute illnesses and chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma
- Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests including laboratory work and medical imaging
- Prescribe medications and treatments following evidence-based best practices
- Provide preventive care including immunizations, screenings, and wellness visits
- Educate patients on disease prevention, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and chronic disease management
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR)
- Coordinate referrals and collaborate with specialists as needed
- Partner with nurses, medical assistants, and other providers to ensure continuity of care
- Monitor patient progress through follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment adjustments
- Develop individualized health improvement plans for patients and families
- Complete required documentation, coding, and billing activities
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education opportunities
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Active medical license in the state of practice
- Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty
- Current DEA registration
- Experience in a primary care or family medicine setting preferred
- New graduates with strong clinical training are encouraged to apply
- Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
- Bilingual skills are a plus, depending on the patient population served
- Additional experience in geriatrics, pediatrics, or women's health is preferred
