Senior Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant serves as the operational leader of the accounting function, overseeing the company's daily accounting activities while ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely month-end and year-end closing processes. Working closely with the Controller, this position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting inventory and cost accounting, preparing financial analyses, and improving accounting processes. The Senior Accountant also provides guidance to the Staff Accountant and serves as a key resource for cross-functional financial support.
Essential Functions
Accounting Operations
- Coordinate day-to-day accounting operations and workflow.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities.
- Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with
company policies.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform account analysis and variance reporting.
- Develop management reports and supporting schedules.
- Assist with parent company reporting requirements.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Maintain inventory valuation and related accounting records.
- Monitor inventory adjustments and cost of goods sold.
- Analyze inventory trends, margins, and operational costs.
- Support physical inventory counts and reconciliation activities.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Assist in developing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget-to-actual performance and investigate significant variances.
- Prepare financial models and operational analyses to support business decisions.
ERP, Audit & Process Improvement
- Serve as the accounting lead for SAGE ERP financial processes.
- Coordinate audit schedules and assist with external auditors and tax preparers.
- Recommend and implement accounting process improvements that increase efficiency
and accuracy.
- Maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide guidance and day-to-day support to the Staff Accountant.
- Partner with Sales, Purchasing, Customer Service, Warehouse, Operations, and Human
Resources to resolve accounting issues.
- Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
Experience: Five to eight years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing or
distribution experience preferred.
Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel; ERP experience (SAGE 100 and Crystal Report Writing experience are a plus); strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and account
reconciliation.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in a professional office environment with occasional
visits to warehouse and operational areas. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting,
computer use, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
Compensation
Base Compensation
- $80,000 - $85,000 annual base salary
