Position Summary
Survival House is a new ASAM 3.1 Clinically Managed Residential Treatment Program dedicated to helping individuals build a foundation for long-term recovery. We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Substance Use Counselor to support residents in developing recovery goals, maintaining treatment engagement, and progressing through their individualized treatment plans.
The Counselor will work closely with the Clinical Supervisor, Program Director, case management team, and external providers (IOP/MAT/mental health) to ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Services & Client Support
- Facilitate individual counseling sessions as appropriate to the 3.1 level of care
- Assist residents in developing person-centered treatment plans and recovery goals
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, screenings, and progress reviews
- Monitor client progress, barriers, and strengths within the residential program
- Support clients in connecting to IOP, MAT, mental health providers, and community resources
- Provide crisis support, conflict resolution, and motivational interventions
Group Facilitation
- Lead educational, life skills, and recovery-focused groups consistent with ASAM 3.1 requirements
- Provide structured programming that supports sobriety, emotional wellness, and daily functioning
- Document group notes and attendance in accordance with COMAR standards
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation including:
- Progress notes
- Treatment plans
- Assessments
- Discharge summaries
- Ensure all clinical services meet COMAR 10.63, ASAM, and Survival House policies
- Participate in chart audits and quality assurance activities
- Maintain client confidentiality and ethical standards
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work closely with the Program Director, Clinical Supervisor, CPRS staff, and case managers
- Participate in case reviews, treatment team meetings, and staff meetings
- Communicate effectively with external partners (IOP programs, MAT Clinics, probation/parole, and community services)
- Support a positive, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and personal growth
Required Qualifications
- One of the following licenses or certifications:
- CSC-AD, or CAC-AD, LGPC, LCPC (preferred)
- Experience in substance use treatment or behavioral health
- Strong knowledge of recovery principles and person-centered care
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and handle sensitive situations
- Excellent documentation, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a residential, or ASAM 3.1 level of care
- Familiarity with COMAR 10.63 and Maryland treatment standards
- Training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, or relapse prevention
