Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Billing Clerk to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical billing processes. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately processing medical claims, managing patient billing records, and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance providers. Your expertise in medical billing and insurance procedures will be vital in maintaining efficient revenue cycle operations and delivering excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers alike.
Duties
- Review and verify medical billing information, including patient details, insurance data, and treatment codes.
- Prepare and submit healthcare claims using billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
- Ensure accurate application of coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding to facilitate proper reimbursement.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies and resolving discrepancies.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records and documentation related to billing transactions for audit purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing issues or coding errors to optimize claim acceptance rates.
- Stay updated on health insurance policies, coding changes, and healthcare regulations affecting billing procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries regarding bills, payments, or insurance coverage.
- Process Insurance Overpayments
- Ensure accurate entry of payments on to patient accounts
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare claims management within a medical office setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare reimbursement processes.
- Familiarity with billing software applications and EMR/EHR systems used in clinical environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and Word for record keeping and reporting purposes.
- Understanding of health insurance plans, policies, and the claims submission process.
- Knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, DRG classifications, and ICD coding practices.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
