Position Summary:
The Purchasing Agent will work closely with the leadership of all departments to fulfill material requirements accurately, economically, and expeditiously. This position is responsible for maintaining accuracy and resolving all purchase order issues with urgency and equity in mind. The Purchasing Agent will also work closely with the Warehouse/Logistics Department, Field Operations, Director of Procurement and Ownership.
Essential Functions:
- Research, evaluate and purchase materials such as (Pipe, Valves, Fittings).
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the most competitive price and order correct quantities.
- Consider price, quality, availability, reliability, and technical support when choosing suppliers.
- Review field requisitions for materials.
- Solicit bid proposals for direct and indirect spending.
- Prepare purchase orders for blanket price contracts.
- Confirm returned quotes to be sure they match requested material.
- Review and approve invoices to be sure they match purchase order pricing and quantity.
- Communicates with superintendents, foreman and logistics groups to ensure that the orders are properly filled with the exact goods and transportation method that was requested.
- Work with other departments for any needs or wants particularly the accounting, manufacturing, and inventory departments.
- Keep well-versed about new products, processes and recommend those that could be beneficial to the company.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with pipe, valves, fittings, and other raw material for the mechanical contracting trade.
- Must have a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased.
- Experience with computer programs, especially Microsoft Excel, required.
- Sufficient knowledge of mathematics including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute and interpret charts and graphs.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize all work assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse individuals.
- Ability to enforce and abide by all Tomko rules and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment:
This position works in a typical shop environment. Pleasant and safe working atmosphere and conditions, which at times may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort:
Light physical effort, requires handling of average-weight objects up to 35 pounds and some standing and walking.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM. Early morning, evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
