Position Summary
The Director of Development is a vital member of the Shanthi Project leadership team, responsible for strategic oversight and execution of all fundraising and donor stewardship efforts. This role is a senior-level position designed to grow our base of support and elevate our profile across the Lehigh Valley. We are seeking a candidate who possesses a genuine passion for mindfulness and a strong commitment to our mission of providing mindfulness education and resources for all. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of fundraising success within the Lehigh Valley nonprofit ecosystem, including existing relationships with regional funders. The Director will oversee the creation and execution of the annual Fund Development Plan, lead donor stewardship, manage grant pipelines, and coordinate signature fundraising events.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1. Fund Development & Strategy
- Strategic Planning: Direct and execute the organization’s annual Fund Development Plan to meet or exceed established individual, corporate, event, and grant giving goals.
- Grant & Funder Management: Leverage existing regional funder connections to identify new grant opportunities. Draft compelling sponsorship and grant proposals to secure critical operating and program funds.
- Donor Stewardship & Communications: Lead the donor stewardship processes, maintaining accurate records within the donor database. In collaboration with the Executive Director, design and execute the annual year-end fundraising campaign.
- Membership Programs: Manage and oversee the Veres Society membership program, ensuring all member benefits are properly delivered.
- Event Planning: In collaboration with the Fund Development Committee, lead the planning and execution of quarterly happy hours and the annual celebration event.
- Committee Leadership: Support the Fund Development Committee Chair by coordinating meetings, recording and distributing minutes, and keeping members engaged in key fundraising initiatives.
2. Community Engagement & Ambassador Relations
- Partnership Development: Actively network to foster positive educational, corporate, and community relationships that align closely with Shanthi Project’s mindfulness mission.
- Brand Ambassadorship: Serve as an outgoing visible representative at local community and networking events to increase awareness of programs and fundraising platforms.
- Leadership Pipeline: Identify and refer passionate community members to volunteer on Shanthi Project committees or the Board of Directors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Mission Alignment: A commitment to, passion for, or personal practice of mindfulness, with the ability to articulate its benefits to stakeholders.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Regional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of non-profit fundraising or development experience, preferably in a leadership role and working within the Lehigh Valley region.
- Funder Networks: Established professional relationships with local Lehigh Valley philanthropic foundations, corporate sponsors, and community donors.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in achieving revenue goals and growing organizational capacity through securing major gifts, writing successful grants, and planning special events.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Google Workstation and direct experience working within a donor database.
- Communication: Exceptional relationship-building, public speaking, and written communication skills, with a proven ability to connect with diverse populations.
