We're looking for a Shop Manager who can do two things at once: run a tight operation and get your hands dirty in the fab shop.
This isn't a desk job. You'll be leading the floor, welding and fabricating alongside your team, occasionally supporting field installations, and making sure everything that leaves our building is built right, on time, and to spec.
Who You Are:
You're a true fabricator, not just a welder. You know the difference, and it matters to you. You're certified in structural welding and know AWS D1.1 standards inside and out, because we build structural equipment and there's no room for guesswork on critical welds.
Beyond welding, you're dynamic. You've got real experience in assembly, light machining, plasma table operation, rigging, and coordinating subcontractors when work needs to go outside (machining, painting, etc.). You've got the kind of mechanical aptitude where you can look at a problem, a piece of equipment, or a rigging setup and figure out how to solve it, not wait to be told.
You've probably worked in shops bigger than ours, and you're looking for something different: more ownership, more impact, and a shop you can actually shape.
You're organized, disciplined, and deliberate. Maybe you've got a military background, or you just operate like one. Structure and process aren't corporate buzzwords to you; they're how you keep a shop running clean and a team accountable. You clean as you go, and you expect everyone else to as well.
What You'll Own:
- Daily shop operations — scheduling, workflow, and keeping projects moving through peaks and valleys
- Quality control — catching issues before they ship, pushing back on unclear specs from engineering, and stopping a job if it's not right, even under deadline pressure
- Team leadership — training and developing our shop team so we're not dependent on any single person
- Shop organization — tools, materials, and cleanliness; a well-run shop is an organized shop
- Structural welding oversight — ensuring all structural welds meet AWS D1.1 standards
- Equipment operation and mechanical troubleshooting — plasma table, forklifts, and general shop equipment
- Rigging — both in the shop and supporting field installations when needed
- Subcontractor coordination — when work needs to go outside for machining, painting, or specialty processes
What We Need From You:
- Certified welder with hands-on AWS D1.1 structural welding experience
- Strong fabrication background: welding, assembly, light machining, rigging, mechanical troubleshooting
- Comfortable supporting occasional field installation work
- Experience managing a shop or team, ideally in a larger operation
- High mechanical aptitude and the ability to solve problems on the fly, whether it's a fabrication issue or a piece of equipment acting up
- A disciplined, process-driven approach to running a shop
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, project-based environment with shifting priorities
- Physical capability for lifting, standing, rigging, and operating shop equipment daily
