Overview
The Rock of Twain Harte is seeking experienced candidates to join our Back-of-House team as a line cook. We currently have one part-time and one full-time position we are seeking to fill. While cooking skills and experience are important, personality, mentality, and attitude that can integrate with our core BOH team is a key component in our decision-making process.
About Us
We are an independently owned restaurant serving pub-style food for lunch and dinner service, seven days a week all year long. We are a high-volume kitchen, particularly during our summer season from mid-May to mid-September. We strive to provide an excellent customer experience through unique, consistent and quality food offerings.
Our core Back-of-House team is comprised of professional, drama-free, drug-free members that have dedicated their careers to working in restaurant kitchens. The core BOH team values professionalism, teamwork, respect, and communication. Our kitchen is demanding, particularly during the summer season and the expectations of our core BOH team for new members are high. Expectations include: attention to detail, efficiency, consistency, cleanliness, strong communication skills, critical thinking skills, a “team-first” mentality, ability to focus in a fast-paced environment, being open to new ideas, being willing to share new ideas, willingness to learn, and mental toughness. There are no “that’s-not-my-job” attitudes on our core BOH team. Candidates must be able to reliably get to work in snowy conditions.
Duties
- Prepare and cook with consistency menu items according to recipes and specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace.
- Ensure all food safety standards are adhered to during preparation and cooking. A ServSafe certificate will be required.
- Assist in the development of new menu items and specials.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives and other culinary tools.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and timely service during peak hours.
- Help with inventory management, including receiving, storing, rotating, and dating and labeling of food supplies.
- Follow proper food handling procedures to minimize waste and maintain quality.
- Solve problems that arise using critical thinking.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a kitchen cook role within the food industry is preferred. Our BOH core team will mentor and guide less-experienced candidates who possess the right attitude and approach to their job.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for food handling.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for effective teamwork in the kitchen.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- A passion for cooking and willingness to learn new skills.
- Solid knife skills and familiarity with various cooking techniques.
- A professional approach to all aspects of the job.
- Must have a reliable cell phone to use our scheduling app.
Compensation
Competitive hourly rates are enhanced by generous tip-sharing. Paid sick time and employee discounts on meals are also included.
Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
