General Assignment Reporter
The Minot Daily News in Minot, ND, is seeking an energetic, curious and community-minded reporter to cover local news, government, schools, business, public safety and community events in Ward County.
This is an ideal opportunity for a journalist who enjoys meeting people, digging into issues that matter, and telling compelling stories across print, digital and social platforms.
What You'll Do
- Report and write accurate, engaging news and feature stories on deadline.
- Attend and cover city meetings, community events, press conferences and breaking news.
- Develop story ideas and cultivate sources throughout the community.
- Conduct interviews and research to ensure fairness, accuracy and context.
- Take photos and capture video to accompany stories.
- Post stories, photos and updates to digital and social media platforms.
- Collaborate with editors and fellow journalists on coverage priorities and special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 1-2 years of reporting experience preferred; strong internship experience will be considered.
- Excellent writing, reporting and interviewing skills.
- Familiarity with Associated Press style.
- Strong news judgment and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using digital publishing tools, social media and multimedia storytelling techniques.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and current vehicle insurance.
- Ability to attend meetings and events as needed.
