The Newaygo County Jail is seeking an ambitious individual to fill the part-time correction officer position. The selected candidate will work in a professional and disciplined environment where teamwork is valued and expected. Ideal candidates will demonstrate integrity and honesty, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and the ability to de-escalate conflict and volatile situations. While the role of a correction officer can be challenging, it provides opportunities for personal growth and to help others who are in need. Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. College level coursework in Corrections or a related field is preferred.
Must complete the local Corrections Officer physical ability test (LCOPAT) http://www.misctc.org/standards.html
Prior to employment, the MSCTC written examination, which tests the candidate’s mental fitness in the areas of reading comprehension, writing skills, and situational reasoning. This exam is proctored by EMPCO.

Must submit to a psychological exam.

Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License; and must possess and maintain an excellent driving record.

Must complete the 160 Corrections Academy within first year of hire date.
