Police Records Specialist

The City of Salisbury is seeking a self-motivated and creative individual to perform a
variety of customer service and recordkeeping tasks in the law enforcement records
and report’s function. Work includes answering questions and providing reports for the
general public, by telephone and in person, securing information, and routing calls to
appropriate personnel; researching computer records and providing records and
information to officers; reviewing citations and reports for completion and accuracy;
data entry of citations, warrants, and tickets in computerized records system; the
collection of fees and payments; notarizing documents; and processing department
mail. The employee is expected to have a general understanding of the department
services to respond to routine inquiries but typically refers non-routine or complex
inquiries to others for response. Specific oral and/or written instructions or manuals are
available to apply to most work situations; some independent decisions are made in
referral of telephone calls. Work includes the use of a computer and specialized
software for data entry. Work requires accuracy and attention and handling sensitive or
confidential administrative matters. Work is performed under the supervision of a
senior level manager and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the
quality and accuracy of work completed.

Minimum Requirements:
- Considerable knowledge of police records management systems
including computer assisted systems.
- Working knowledge of modern office procedures and related office
information technology equipment, software, and peripherals.
- Working knowledge of basic police terminology.
- Skill in processing, maintaining and preparing a variety of records and
reports.
- Skill in communicating effectively and in conducting the department’s
business in person and by telephone.
