Objective:
Maximize sales and profits by effectively managing assigned categories and assisting with center store operations.
Essential Function:
Expert knowledge of grocery operations. Development, implementation, and enforcement of department operational standards to increase sales, maximize productivity, and promote marketing image. Influence gross profit through aggressive buying and merchandising practices and controls. Assist center store department management teams towards achieving/exceeding gross profit, sales, supply, and labor percentage goals through counsel, training, and direction.
Basic Functions:
1) Follow directives of Director of Category Management (and/or Director of GM/HBC), Director of Sales and
Merchandising, President and CEO.
2) Providing the best service to stores as possible regarding category management needs.
3) Promote a friendly, professional attitude, including 5 Feet & Greet.
4) Develop and implement strategies for assigned product categories.
5) Determine item assortment for each category by selecting new items and discontinuing unneeded items.
6) Determining prices of items/categories and work with appropriate personnel to input changes.
7) Design and implement planogram changes.
8) Develop promotional and advertising strategies for assigned categories.
9) Work with supplier sales reps to negotiate deals and develop category plans.
10) Work with home office and store level personnel to make sure category plans are being implemented.
11) Abide by Company safety standards.
12) Abide by Company procedures and policies.
Specific Skills:
1) Must possess excellent computer skills, including (but not limited to) use of AS400 & PC.
Must possess ability to compile and maintain information using various computer software programs and
systems such as: MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook), Lotus (Word Pro, 1-2-3), Price Master, and ProComm.
2) Knowledge of AS400 file layouts relating to maintaining Zone information.
3) Ability to create queries from files relating to Pricing.
4) Must possess the ability to effectively communicate with store level associates.
5) Communicate and consult with IT Department associates to facilitate and develop Pricing Programs.
6) Must be able to negotiate with suppliers for best cost of goods and programs.
Machinery/Equipment:
Proper use and maintenance of:
Computers (AS400 & PC), software, printers, telephone, scanning equipment/software used at stores, and general office equipment.
