Job Summary:
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing all referral processes, verifying insurance benefits, and ensuring patients receive accurate information prior to their appointments. This role supports seamless clinical operations by coordinating with providers, patients, and insurance companies to ensure authorizations and benefits are handled efficiently and correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review incoming referrals for accuracy and completeness; enter referral details into the EMR system.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for all scheduled patients, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and coverage details.
- Communicate benefit information clearly to patients, including expected out-of-pocket costs or authorization requirements.
- Maintain regular communication with referring offices to obtain missing information, updates, or clarifications.
- Scan, upload, and organize referral documents, and insurance correspondence.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the EMR and referral tracking systems.
- Follow HIPAA, compliance guidelines, and all departmental policies.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, referring offices, and insurance representatives.
Qualifications:
- Experience in medical referrals, insurance verification, or benefits coordination strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, authorizations, and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication, follow-up, and organization skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize workflow.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- EMR experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
