SUMMARY:
The Criminal Justice Internship provides students pursuing a Criminal Justice degree with the opportunity to work with local Reentry Coalitions, the Division of Probation & Parole, and their local Sheriff’s Office; assist formerly incarcerated individuals with job seeking, placement, and retention; learn about assets and barriers to the justice-involved; and participate in services that acclimate the justice-impacted back into the community. The goal of this position is to educate a student who will eventually be working in the criminal justice system about the assets, barriers, and gaps that justice-impacted individuals face and projects available to navigate those.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience: Participants must be a full-time/part-time student pursuing a degree in the Criminal Justice field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, or otherwise be able to travel between agency locations as required for the position.
Screenings: Employment is contingent upon a successful completion of a background check and satisfactory driving record verification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Comfortable interacting with justice-involved individuals (under supervision with the Division of Probation & Parole; currently incarcerated)

Strong verbal skills; ability to communicate clearly with participants, staff, and partner agencies

Comfortable making telephone calls to clients and community partners

Ability to document services and interactions accurately and in a timely manner

Basic computer literacy (typing, email, data entry, virtual meetings, Microsoft Office)

Comfortable learning new digital tools for tracking services and outcomes

Able to and comfortable with entering correctional centers
