Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Custodial professional to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across our facilities. This role is vital in ensuring that all spaces are hygienic, well-maintained, and compliant with safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude toward facility upkeep. You will be responsible for performing cleaning tasks, handling cleaning chemicals safely, and supporting overall facilities maintenance (expected to do minor repairs by yourself and help with major maintenance work around the facility) to create a positive experience for staff and visitors alike.
Duties
- Perform routine cleaning of floors, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, hallways, and common areas using various cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and scrubbers.
- Handle chemical agents safely by following proper procedures for storage, mixing, and disposal to ensure a safe environment.
- Conduct heavy lifting tasks involving supplies, furniture, or equipment while adhering to safe lifting practices.
- Maintain sanitation standards through proper waste disposal, disinfecting surfaces, and ensuring cleanliness of all areas.
- Support facilities maintenance activities including minor repairs, painting, and general upkeep to enhance the overall appearance and functionality of the premises.
- Operate janitorial equipment efficiently and perform deep cleaning tasks as needed for industrial or commercial spaces.
- Follow safety protocols diligently during all custodial activities to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in custodial or janitorial roles with knowledge of commercial or industrial cleaning procedures.
- Strong understanding of chemical handling safety procedures and sanitation standards.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums, and pressure washers effectively.
- Physical stamina for manual handling tasks including heavy lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with staff and visitors when needed.
- Experience in facilities maintenance tasks such as painting or minor repairs is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety protocol adherence to maintain a secure working environment at all times.
Requirements
- Preferred High School diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience in the related field
- Must be able to lift 50-75lbs occasionally and 25-50lbs frequently
- Must be able to climb a ladder safely for cleaning/maintenance jobs
- Must be able to safely use maintenance and cleaning equipment
- Responsibilities "as needed"
Nature of the Job
You will be working at a recreational facility with 2 ice rinks, 2 swimming pools, weight room and cardio deck, offices and studios. McKendree Metro Rec Plex is home to McKendree Swimming and Diving, Water Polo and Hockey. There will be a lot of home swim meets, water polo games and hockey games from September through April. Summer is also busy with summer camps and swim meets.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
