A growing flood mitigation company in Houston, TX is looking to hire a project specific QA-QC Manager. The company designs, fabricates and services critical infrastructure flood protection devices for a broad geography, in the U.S & globally. The company has grown steadily since its inception and is experiencing accelerated growth due to Federally funded resiliency projects and continued organic growth. Team-oriented, the company is focused on helping solve customer challenge in reducing their flood risk.
Position Summary
The QA/QC Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all project specific quality assurance and quality control activities associated with the fabrication of passive flood barrier systems for a two-year critical flood risk reduction project. The project is designed to protect surrounding communities through the installation of engineered passive flood protection systems that must meet stringent performance, durability, and reliability requirements. As such, this position is dedicated to ensuring all fabricated barrier assemblies comply with project specifications, contract requirements, approved submittals, and applicable industry codes and standards. This is an in-office position, between FloodBreak’s corporate office in Bellaire, TX and our fabrication facility located in Splendora, TX north of Houston.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead and coordinate quality control inspections and project-specific QA/QC requirements throughout fabrication, testing, and project execution.
- Develop, coordinate, and submit quality-related submittal packages in accordance with project specifications, contract requirements, and client expectations.
- Manage submittal workflows, including tracking approvals, review comments, revisions, and resubmittals to maintain project schedules.
- Review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, submittals, and quality documentation for compliance with project specifications, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings to establish quality plans, inspection requirements, documentation deliverables, and project-specific QA/QC procedures.
- Coordinate with engineering, fabrication, suppliers, subcontractors, Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI), NDE personnel, testing agencies, and third-party inspectors to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
- Train and support fabrication personnel on quality requirements, inspection procedures, and applicable standards.
- Maintain QA/QC documentation, including Material Test Reports (MTRs), WPS/PQRs, welder qualifications, welding logs, NDE reports, inspection records, testing documentation, and turnover packages.
- Prepare quality reports, inspection summaries, compliance matrices, and other project documentation for client reviews.
- Identify quality issues, investigate root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Respond to customer quality concerns and work with project management, engineering, and fabrication teams to resolve quality and technical issues.
- Develop and maintain quality tracking logs, inspection schedules, punch lists, and document control throughout project execution.
- Compile final quality turnover packages, including compliance data books, certifications, inspection records, and closeout documentation.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality systems, documentation, manufacturing efficiency, and overall project performance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quality Management, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or a related manufacturing/fabrication environment.
- Experience working with structural steel, welding, heavy fabrication, industrial and manufacturing projects preferred.
- Working knowledge of AWS, ASME, AISC, ASTM, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
- Experience coordinating welding inspections, NDE activities, and third-party testing agencies.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause investigation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, inspectors, suppliers, and project teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams); experience with document control or quality management software is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strict quality and documentation standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
