This role works closely with both the Project Manager and Site Superintendent, balancing technical aspects of projects with administrative tasks. The Project Engineer plays a crucial part in the execution of a project by offering technical expertise throughout construction, connecting design goals with on-site execution. Key duties include managing the submittal and RFI process while reviewing, coordinating, and managing project documentation such as drawings, product data, and samples to ensure compliance with contract requirements, communicating with vendors and subcontractors, and collaborating with the design team to resolve any discrepancies. The Project Engineer supports the construction process with technical knowledge and helps ensure everything is carried out according to industry standards, the design intent, and most importantly per the demands of the schedule. This position understands time and task management and impact of sensitive decisions.
Responsibilities
Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts for accuracy and completeness.
Maintains control and proper distribution of the contract documents.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to address technical queries and resolve design discrepancies.
Assist in procurement of specialized materials and equipment; evaluate technical submittals and shop drawings.
Monitor site activities for technical compliance, inspect workmanship and materials, and ensure adherence to codes and standards.
Support project manager with change order management, requests for information (RFIs), and quality assurance procedures in accordance with the construction schedule.
Liaison between Estimating Department & Project Management for proper buyout including creation of complete Scope of Work Summaries.
Support the superintendent with producing comprehensive project documentation, including daily reports, engineering logs, and test results.
Implement solutions to construction challenges that arise during project execution.
Conduct and document project meetings, participate in commissioning and handover processes, and provide training as needed.
Holds the Project Team accountable for meeting the schedule from a document control and task management perspective.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field or 5+ years of relevant commercial construction management experience.
Proficiency in project management tools.
Proficiency in reading and understanding construction drawings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with construction codes, standards, and regulations.
