Duties
- Dispense prescriptions accurately while ensuring compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws, including USP 797 standards for sterile compounding.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to optimize medication therapy management and provide medication counseling tailored to individual needs.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, including medication compounding, drug regulation adherence, and controlled substance tracking.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff, fostering a team-oriented environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and implement medical management plans, including pain management, immunizations, and acute care interventions.
- Utilize Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS), Electronic Health Records (EHR), and other EMR systems to document patient interactions securely while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Perform patient care activities such as IV infusion preparation, aseptic technique procedures, and medication administration in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Educate patients on medication use, potential side effects, and health management strategies to promote informed healthcare decisions.
Skills
- Extensive pharmacy experience in clinical settings such as hospital or LTC (Long-Term Care) environments with a focus on acute care, pediatrics, or community pharmacy.
- Critical care experience with skills in patient assessment, medical management, and pain management protocols.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology principles, and drug regulation policies to ensure safe medication practices.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software systems including Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS), EMR/EHR platforms, and inventory management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to practice as a licensed pharmacist with current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as immunizations are preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills coupled with effective client communication to enhance patient satisfaction and health outcomes.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, pharmaceutical regulatory compliance standards such as USP 797 for sterile preparations, and practicing within state and federal pharmacy laws.
- Experience managing pharmacy teams in fast-paced environments while maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety.
- Familiarity with IV insertion techniques, aseptic procedures, and handling drug infusion therapies safely.
