Looking for a hands-on job where you can make a real impact? The Iowa Department of Transportation is hiring temporary full-time Facilities Maintenance Assistants to help keep Iowa’s rest areas, welcome centers, weigh stations, and parking sites safe, clean, and running smoothly.
Location: Western side of Iowa
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
What you’ll do:
- Support daily operations and upkeep of multiple public-use facilities.
- Assist with basic repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Restock supplies and organize equipment.
- Check on janitorial and lawn care contractors to ensure work meets standards.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
What you need:
- A valid Iowa driver’s license.
- General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry.
- Ability to work independently and travel between sites as needed.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn safety, sanitation, and compliance procedures.
- Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
