The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing Franciscan Health Ultrasound Imaging, operating sonographic equipment to obtain images of patients' internal body parts to support diagnoses, and provide insight into medical knowledge. The Ultrasound Technologist works with and assists the physician in the performance of assigned procedures.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Clean, check, and maintain sonographic equipment, submitting maintenance requests or performing minor repairs, to ensure proper operation.
Clean, maintain, and restock examination and inventory rooms.
Research, develop, and maintain technical policy, exams, and procedure manuals. Implement new exams and procedures to sustain progressive development.
Explain testing procedures to patients and family members to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
Maintain logs and quality assurance documentation.
Practice established safety guidelines and utilizes universal precautions and infection control.
Prepare and position patients for testing.
Position the patient and equipment correctly to produce results with the best quality. Operate equipment that uses high-frequency sound waves to record images of internal organs. Use imaging equipment that non-invasively emits sound waves directed towards internal organs, blood vessels, tissues and other structures. Maintain ultrasound equipment and exam room.
Observe and care for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort.
While under the supervision of a physician, complete all ultrasound exams and procedures. Use equipment to record images of motion, shape, and composition of a target area. Ensure that the ultrasound images generated are of high quality. Make adjustments to the machine in order to produce images suitable for interpretation, following department protocol.
Review test images to check for quality and sufficient coverage. Compare patients most recent scans to previous results and assess diagnostic information. Provide summary findings for physicians and other medical professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree in Radiology/Ultrasound OR Ultrasound Certificate required
1 year of Ultrasound experience preferred
Basic Life Support Program (BLS) required
Registered Ultrasonographer (ARDMS) OR ARRT Certification required within 1 year
