This specific position will have you teaching in the East Mesa/Apache Junction area.
One of the coolest jobs on the planet: sharing the wonder of coding, robotics and computer science with kids! GenTech offers a range of innovative KidsTech programs for kids in grades K-12.
GenTech in Schools: KidsTech
GenTech's award-winning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs are offered in
13 school districts across the greater Phoenix area. Currently, KidsTech programs are taught in
about 200 classes across the valley, featuring six Computer Science strands:
- Cool Coding
- Radical Robots
- Might Micros
- Modeling to the Max
- Crazy Computer Builds
- Cyber Defenders
Work Times and Scheduling
GenTech serves districts as needed on individual campuses from Monday - Friday
During the School day as an academic elective/specials class.
○ Time slots range from 2-8 hours between 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
After School or Enrichment programs
○ As either a school-contracted or parent-paid program
○ Time slots are generally from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
All scheduling is aligned with your availability and your preference to work between 1 and 30 hours per week, depending on the jobs available at the time of your application. Your location is factored into your scheduling as a consideration of your drive time. A reliable vehicle is mandatory.
Pay Scale:
● Starting rate is $25.00 per hour
● Binlingual instructors start at $26.00 per hour
Training:
General training is approximately 20 hours long and is typically held on Saturdays or weekday afternoons generally divided into 2 to 3 sessions. Trainings are fun and lively with plenty of food!
Additional training sessions may continue throughout your employment as needed. Some independent training is provided.
● Training sessions will consist of a general onboarding session
● Classroom safety, school protocols and behavior management training.
● Specialized training on the courses that you will be teaching
● Before teaching on your own, you will spend time shadowing an experienced GenTech teacher to prepare you for the real classroom environment.
Qualifications:
To be a GenTech you must have:
Instructional capabilities :
● A genuine passion for working with children.
● An outgoing, confident, and fun-loving demeanor
● A presence as a strong, safe classroom leader
● Ability to instill rules of conduct and manage student behavior
● A willingness to learn the GenTech KidsTech STEM curriculum
● Ability to communicate STEM concepts using age appropriate methods
● Patience and compassion in working with diverse populations
● A strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young learners.
Technical capabilities:
● General proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C++.
● A solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, troubleshooting, problem solving
● Some computer hardware, operating systems, and networking knowledge
● Elementary knowledge of electronics and circuitry
● Knowledge or willingness to learn many various robot sets / general
robotics
● Basic knowledge or willingness to learn 3D Printing, CAD, laser/CNC
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Demonstrate your technical expertise in a creative, instructional model
● Share perspectives and inspire kids to consider potential STEM career opportunities.
● Manage kids and classroom activities, lessons and behavior. Understand that this is difficult.
● Manage classroom logistics, safety, attendance, communication, and protocols with GenTech.
