Job Summary:
The Parks Maintainer II - Part-Time is responsible for effective and efficient maintenance services to Park District parks, facilities, equipment, and vehicles. Individuals must be able to perform the functions as outlined in this job description. Responsibilities and job tasks required are to ensure park standards are met and District property are functional, safe, and attractive for all users. This is a part-time non-exempt position that must fulfill scheduled days and hours that meet District needs, that includes weekend scheduled days.
Qualifications:
Individuals must be 18+ years of age having a High School Degree or GED with applicable related experience required. A valid Illinois Class D Driver’s License is required with a clean driving record. CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required within three months of employment.
Previous custodial, landscape, and maintenance job experience is desirable.
Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
Immediate Supervisor:
The Parks Maintainer II - Part-Time is responsible to the Superintendent of Parks.
Essential Functions:
· This is an evening hours and weekend hours- hours may vary day to day
Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of buildings; as well as park sites, amenities and equipment.
· Custodial maintenance of facilities and park sites.
· Collection of refuse, litter, and debris.
· Turf maintenance of park sites; including the operation of commercial lawn mowers, backpack blowers, edgers and string trimmers.
· Assist in the maintenance of athletic fields, playground equipment, shelter pavilions, and other Park District property as assigned.
· Assists in special event set-up and tear-down tasks and acts as support staff to recreation department as assigned.
· Performs winterizing and spring set-ups of grounds and facilities.
· Performs paint and plaster on Park District buildings.
· Keep tools and equipment in good repair and top performance levels.
· Attend required meetings, PDRMA training courses, or other training opportunities assigned.
Marginal Functions:
· Perform the job in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work rules and employee manuals.
· Assist with and/or attend park district special events.
· Adheres to Parks Department dress code.
· Maintains positive public appearance.
· Purchases small hardware items and job supplies as assigned.
· Work around the general population and park patrons in public areas.
· Responsible for meeting the safety objectives of the department.
Psychological Considerations:
The Parks Maintainer II - Part-Time may work unsupervised and must be able to independently carry out work without supervision when needed. Must possess appropriate skills in order to successfully complete tasks or work assignments through the direction of Superintendent of Parks and full-time parks staff. Professional maturity, honest nature, and personal integrity are required.
Ability to exercise good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District. Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems in the best interest of the Park District.
Physiological Considerations:
The Parks Maintainer II - Part-Time regularly performs duties in the medium to heavy work level (lifting 75 lbs. infrequently). The position includes frequent sitting, walking, standing, reaching, with occasional climbing, bending, stooping, balancing and crawling.
Environmental Considerations:
Ability to work in outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat. Ability to work around various outdoor contaminants, such as herbicides, and airborne and plant allergens. Activities are performed both indoors and outdoors, with conditions that include lighting and temperature. The Parks Maintainer II - Part-Time will also be exposed to various chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, elevation and confined spaces where appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
Cognitive Considerations:
Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise verbal and written manner. Able to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively to read and understand printed material. The ability to maintain effective audio-visual and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment. Capable of basic math skills including measuring, calculating, and estimating. Must demonstrate good safety awareness.
Salary Range: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
