Job Summary:
Our pharmacy is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our team. The Pharmacy Technician will assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service to patients. This role requires strong organizational skills, accuracy, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prescription Preparation and Dispensing: Assist pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, ensuring accuracy in dosage and labeling.
- Customer Service: Interact with patients in a professional and courteous manner, answering questions, and providing information about medications and pharmacy services.
- Inventory Management: Maintain and manage inventory, including receiving and stocking medication supplies, performing regular inventory checks, and notifying the pharmacist of any shortages or discrepancies.
- Data Entry: Accurately enter patient and prescription information into the pharmacy’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Medication Compounding: Assist in the preparation of compounded medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Insurance Processing: Assist patients with insurance claims and billing processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of claims.
- Administrative Support: Perform various administrative tasks, including managing phone calls, filing prescriptions, and maintaining patient records.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy regulations, including maintaining proper documentation and handling of controlled substances.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, including checking for expired medications, monitoring for medication errors, and adhering to safety protocols.
- Packaging Medications for Shipment: Prepare and package medications for shipment, ensuring they are correctly labeled, securely packed, and comply with shipping regulations.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with pharmacy practices, new medications, and changes in regulations through ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
- Certification: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
- Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a related healthcare field is preferred.
