Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care is about a 45-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Position is located at Osawatomie State Hospital, days/hours may vary. This position may require you to work weekends. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.
All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficcient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers, and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.
The purpose of the Operator/Dispatcher is to serve as the hospital's operator and dispatcher. In addition, the individual will be responsible for clerical support related to the operator and dispatching functions and Safety and Security department. This position requires proficient documentation recording in the safety and security log. Filing paperwork and printing documentation for office use. Dispatcher is responsible for starting Fire Watch paperwork contacting the appropriate office for start time and end time. Supports Administrative Assistant for Safety and Security. Dispatchers are responsible for emails to correspond with Chief of Safety and Security, Lieutenants and Administrative Assistant of Safety and Security with call-ins, late shows, fire related incidents, break ins and anything else asked of them by the following. Operator and Dispatcher are to clean and make sure the entry way, station, rest room area is neat and presentable for public to see. This position requires multitasking and proficient communication. Dispatchers will have Semi Annual dispatch test. This position has moments of fast paced and quick response during emergency situations. Dispatchers have an important role in the Safety and security department this requires quick responses and must be able to follow request given by supervisors and Chief of Safety and Security at any time.
The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Must be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.
Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded in part by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

- Vital communication hub for the facility, managing both routine and emergency communications with accuracy.

Answering and directing incoming calls to appropriate departments or personnel.

Monitoring alarm panels and promptly dispatching Safety and Security Officers to the site of the triggered alarm.

Handles the operations log.

Requires exceptional attention to detail.

Responsible for accurately announcing the start and end of drills using the intercom system.
